What is FTP or File Transfer Protocol?

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is actually recognized or renowned as a protocol which falls under the network protocol’s category. This protocol type is commonly recognized being a standard protocol that is used being a network protocol. The basic aim, work or functionality of this protocol type is to copy or you may say transfer data or any file over a network based on TCP / IP from one to another host computer.
Internet is the network normally on which FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used for the above mentioned copy or you may say transfer of file function from one to other host. Client-server architecture is used to build an FTP platform and separate data connections as well as control is utilized between this server and client in this architecture.
Authentication to the FTP or File Transfer Protocol’s users may be granted by using the protocol known as clear-text sign-in protocol and this authentication process may be done (as per configuration) by users themselves but the same access to FTP server may also be granted to any FTP user being an anonymous user if the configuration of that FTP serverallows to do so.
Initially the client applications of first FTP system were recognized being a tool ofinteractive command-line in which standard syntaxes as well as commands were used. But now several graphical user interface based FTP clients are seen these days in the market, which have been created or you may say developed to be used in different currently recognized operating systems of desktop computers.
It was Abhay Bhushan who was behind writing the specifications of very first FTP or File Transfer Protocol. These specifications of Bhushan were published in year 1971 on April 16 and were named as RFC 114.
